Is the bunny thing dead yet?

I love getting together with family and having a big meal, but do people still hide eggs claiming that a bunny did it. I know it's fun and exciting but I can't help but think lying to my children after telling them to always tell the truth is wrong. I think I can justify the Santa thing, but the Easter bunny, and tooth fairy are going to far in my opinion. Honesty is hard to teach if you don't tell the truth. Do as I say and not as I do, is not an effective parenting method.
What are your thoughts on the lies we tell our children out of tradition?

My parents went straight honestly with all of it: Santa, tooth-fairy, Easter Bunny. They said it was just a fun part of the tradition of a holiday, but it was not real. I appreciated not having to go through that realization. But all my little school friends didn't like it when I told them the truth. Hmm.

@ong You are right. I think it is going to be a hard Christmas of honesty this year. Honesty is the best policy. Especially when you are expecting the truth from your children.

I think having a strict no lies policy is a nice idea, but isn't really realistic. Do you really want your kids to tell the truth in EVERY situation? Adults have to lie at certain times. If you program your kids to tell the truth no matter what, they're going to get themselves into some sticky situations... Santa and the easter bunny help teach the complex lesson that there is a gray area where dishonesty is not always a horrible thing.

I think I would rather my children be troublesome honest children, then sweet hearted liars. But thats just my thought.
