Being a republican I voted for John McCain. I was concerned about his age but since his dad was on the campaign trail with him this week, I figure he has another 8 years left in him. I also like the idea of the first lady being the owner of my company.
Since the common sense political party is not doing well I figured I would bring my questions here. I want to know who you voted for and why? I want to know other peoples views on candidates. I mite not agree but want to see other views.

I would not vote for a Republican if someone held a gun to my head. My reasons are three fold:
1) I care about the environment, and those people with kids should too, don't you want them to have a planet to grow up in?
2) This "fend for yourself federalism" that republicans tout is doing no justice for anyone, people need a helping hand every now and then. I would be living in a gutter somewhere were it not for federal aid.
3) The United States is not an island, what we do affects the rest of the world, the more we piss off the rest of the world with wars of aggression the more danger we are in. Can't we all play nice??
Can we say dead hostage?
Sadly, I missed the primary... so nothing to report here. McCain is from Arizona... so that is about all I need to know.
We voted for Huckabee mainly because he is a true conservative. We believe in less government and not more... less taxes and not more...strong defense but not trying to be world police. He holds Christian values of the sanctity of life and doesn't believe in killing babies and he supports marriage of a man and a woman and not like sex marriage that God calls an "abomination."
Alright Steve! Taking on the big topics again and stirring the pot. I like it!
So, I voted for Obama and I will explain by way of deduction.
I will keep it simple by narrowing the race down to McCain, Huckabee, Clinton and Obama.
McCain has stated the he expects us to be fighting in Iraq for the next 100 years. He intends to extend a war that not only was started on false pretenses but has not only kept us from stopping our original enemy, but according to Michael McConnell, the Director of National Intelligence, "Al Qaeda is improving the last key aspect of its ability to attack the US: the identification, training, and positioning of operatives for an attack on the homeland,". I feel that at this point the fact that we have not been attacked again can be chalked up to luck and timing, and certainly not the war in Iraq.
Than you look at Huckabee. I can understand why people, especially conservative christians like Huckabee. Former pastor, likable character and willingness for bipartisan solutions. I am concerned about his religion impairing the advancement of science. Me (and my christian faith) personally, I think stem cell research is a huge issue for our health and scientific research. We are on the verge of curing some of the worst diseases and scientists have said they are at a stand still until stem cell research becomes available. We are not talking about cloning people or killing babies, we are talking about using excess embryos created for in vitro fertilization that are going to be destroyed anyways and using them to cure degenerative diseases and cancer. Also, I don't think gay marriage is going to hurt the sanctity of marriage, I think it's heterosexual marriage that is in trouble.
Now, I don't mind Hillary. Most democrats that prefer Hillary over Obama cite that she has more experience. However, it is her experience that concerns me. She has been in the game so long that it's hard for me to believe that she is unaffected by the negative aspects of politics. That leaves Obama. Regarding experience, nobody know what it's like to be president until they are the president. They surround themselves by a cabinet of people that help them figure out the facts and make the tough decisions everyday. In Obama, I see someone who has not been affected enough to actually still have some of the ideals that one would have when they enter politics. Even Republicans agree that Bush has caused damage to the U.S. reputation. Only a fresh outlook will be able to repair that damage.
Boy, that was a lot longer than I intended. Maybe I should put this on my own blog.....oh yeah, thats right, I do have a blog, don't I.
